In the Spring of 2009 for episode 2, we decided to investigate Bigfoot, possibly the worlds most famous cryptid.  It seemed the logical thing to do after investigating his long-lost cousin Fouke Monster.  We decided to focus on Leflore County because it boasts at least 18 Bigfoot sightings, by far the most out of any Oklahoma County.  Plus, the whole OTF crew is from Leflore County.

A little side note, and we can say this because its home to us:  Leflore County was at one point the #1 meth producing county in the #1 meth producing state in the nation.  We have a saying here.  BIGFOOT:  Myth?  or Meth? *giggle*

Yes, I giggled.  Moving on.

It was a long interesting night, making for an interesting episode, and not coincidentally, our best-selling episode.
We went down far south of the more urban communities(if you can call them that) in the county, a parked at the head of an old forestry road.  We then strapped all of our gear, camping AND production, onto our backs and set out.  If you want to find Bigfoot, you have to go looking for him...right?

So by our best GPS readings, we hiked over four miles back into the wonderful nothingness, and as dark approached went about setting up base camp.  This was going to be the base of operations for our night-time expeditions out into the woods.

After the tents were set up and the fire was started, we had a nice dinner of beef jerky and what little else we had packed out there.  Then we prepped all of our gear, made a plan of action, and got started.

We worked as two groups:   Joe and I(justin) and Lyndon Nobles(biologist) and Keith.  The objective?  Take the Hi-8s and head due north and due south from camp respectively.  We werent to start investigating until each of us were at least 500 yards from camp, therefore putting us at LEAST 1000 yards from each other to minimize the possibility of us contaminating each others evidence.

It got interesting fast.

Joe and I, almost as soon as we left camp, found we had a tag-along.  We still dont know what it was, but it followed us throughout the night.

There were instances of things falling around us.  At one point a large dead tree fell in an area we had just left, and was also in the general direction we were hearing our "guest" at that point.  We doubled back, found the tree in the creek, but couldnt find anything around it.

Thats when we caught a glimpse of something in the moonlight.  It was big and bulky, but it was at least 50 yards from us.  It could have been a bear, or merely a play on light.  The moon was very bright that night, so our eyes playing trcks on us IS a possibility.

Meanwhile, Keith and Duke were hearing some noises of their own.  They were never ables to catch up with their noise maker either, but did catch the sound of a dog barking.  well, perhaps it was a dog.  It was a weird dog if it was.  It sounded very strange, almost like a person messing with us, but as far as I know we were the only ones to make the 4 mile hike out there.

We went back out the next morning to try and look for the tracks of our "shadow" that had followed us all around the night before.  We were out of luck on the tracks however, because after we had nervously bedded down after our investigation the rains had started.  They washed away any footprints we might have hoped to document.

Interesting stuff.

Its worth checking out.

How to Get There

To get where WE investigated would be extremely hard to explain.  In southern Leflore County, in Eastern Oklahoma, go south of the town of Hodgens, and take a left at the big sign that says Stapp/Zoe.  Then pick a place to park your car and start hiking.  Thats what we did.  We went out as deep as we could into an area where some hunters are documented as saying they had encountered Mr. Foot.
